Myocardial indium-111-antimyosin uptake in essential hypertension

AIM: Evaluation of myocardial uptake of 111In-anti-myosin antibodies in patients with essential hypertension for the verification of our hypothesis that it may increase in stage 1 in the left ventricle as a result of myocardial damage. PATIENTS, METHODS: Twelve men (mean age: 592.4 years) suffering from angina like symptoms and essential hypertension in clinical stage 1 according to the JNC-VI criteria were included into the study...

Genetic analysis of CAV1 gene in hypertension and metabolic syndrome

Recently, we reported that the polymorphism 1132T>C (Gene-Bank: AF519768.1) of the NOS3 gene was associated with susceptibility to metabolic syndrome (MS) in hypertensive patients...

The role of bradykinin B1 receptor on cardiac remodeling in stroke-prone spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR-SP)

An angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor (ACE-I) reduces cardiac remodeling and a bradykinin B2 receptor (B2R) antagonist partially abolishes this ACE-I effect...

Keywords: B1 receptor, bradykinin, hypertension, MAP kinase, SHR-SP, TGF-?

The tissue kallikrein-kinin system protects against cardiovascular and renal diseases and ischemic stroke independently of blood pressure reduction

Tissue kallikrein (hK1) cleaves low-molecular-weight kininogen to produce kinin peptide, which binds to kinin receptors and triggers a wide spectrum of biological effects...

Keywords: Angiogenesis, Apoptosis, brain, heart, hypertension, kinin B2 receptor, oxidative stress, tissue kallikrein

Increase in kinins on post-exercise hypotension in normotensive and hypertensive volunteers

Post-exercise hypotension is an important event for blood pressure regulation, especially in hypertensive individuals...

The uncoupling protein-1 gene ?3826A/G polymorphism and hypertension in Japanese subjects

Background: The possible effects of the uncoupling protein-1 (UCP-1) gene ?3826A/G polymorphism on hypertension (HT) have yet to be elucidated.

Methods: A total of 578 Japanese subjects (231 males and 347 females, mean age 58.4 years) were enrolled in the study to investigate the association between HT and the ?3826A/G polymorphism by genomic PCR and Bcl1-restriction fragment length polymorphism methods.

Results: Multivariate logistic regression analysis for HT, adjusted for genotype (recessive model, AA+AG vs...

A724A polymorphism of sarco(endo)plasmic reticulum Ca2+-ATPase 2 (SERCA2) in hypertensive patients

Background: Impaired function of calcium ion transporter sarco(endo)plasmic reticulum Ca2+-ATPase2 (SERCA2), encoded by ATP2A2 gene, was observed in hypertension...

The efficacy of cystatin C assay in the prediction of glomerular filtration rate. Is it a more reliable marker for renal failure?

We determined the sensitivity, specificity, receiver operating characteristics and correlation between cystatin C (cysC) and two widely used markers of renal function, creatinine clearance and serum creatinine, in 244 patients (84 diabetics, 84 hypertensive and 76 healthy subjects)...

Comparison between HELLP syndrome, chronic hypertension, and superimposed preeclampsia on chronic hypertension without HELLP syndrome

Aim: To compare perinatal outcome of patients with HELLP syndrome to that of patients with chronic hypertension and superimposed preeclampsia on chronic hypertension without HELLP syndrome.

Methods: We retrospectively evaluated the perinatal outcome of 147 pregnancies complicated by the HELLP syndrome, chronic hypertension, and superimposed preeclampsia on chronic hypertension without HELLP syndrome.

Results: Gestational age at delivery and birthweights were lower among women with HELLP syndrome than among women with superimposed preeclampsia and chronic hypertension (P < 0.05)...
