The article refers to H.G. Thümmels interpretation of the struggle about iconoclasm. Ritter raises several questions, e.g. if the councils of that period are indeed controlled mainly by the emperor and politics, if the level of theological argumentation is indeed quite modest etc. Ritter hints even to the fact that the arguments put forward by H. Ohme should reconsidered by Thümmel.
