Besides venous plasma exclusively recommended by the WHO other five sample systems are used for the diagnostics of glucose intolerance particularly at point-of-care testing. It appears problematic to use conversion factors for the calculation of different decision limits if these are derived from those limits determined for venous plasma. It therefore seems urgently required to agree on only one sample system.
