We give the results of numerical modelling of the dynamics of internal waves generated by turbulent wakes behind self-propelled and towed bodies in a stably stratified fluid.We consider the cases of linear and nonlinear density distributions of an undisturbed fluid in depth. It is shown that the turbulent wake behind a towed body generates waves of much larger amplitude than the wake behind a self-propelled body. The physical interpretation of the result obtained is given.
