Surfaces with prescribed mean curvature in R3 are studied in a partially free boundary configuration. We establish a priori gradient estimates up to the free boundary, where the surface under consideration meets the support surface non-perpendicularly, in general. Methodically, we combine a familiar technique due to E. Heinz with a certain generalized reflection across the free boundary part. In addition, our estimates are based on upper bounds for the length of the free trace and the area growth. Finally, some remarks on other boundary value problems are included.
