The surface temperature distribution on flooded surfaces contains information about the flow near the wall. The use of liquid crystals and the analysis by image processing software permit temperature measurement under difficult conditions. The effective dynamic characteristics depend on the wall material as is shown experimentally and by computation. This application of liquid crystals is described for pneumatic pulsed flow, for flow along rapid rotating disks, and for flow in rapidly rotating chambers.
