Least-square Straight Lines in the Plane

The evaluation of measured data often requires the calculation of least square straight lines in the plane. This fit has to be such as to minimize the sum of the squared distances taken perpendicular to the fitted straight line. In this paper the algorithm for a total least square straight line fit in the plane will be derived. For practical purposes a C routine will be given.
