Spatial-resolved Laser Doppler Velocity Profile Measurement of Boundary Layer Flows

A novel laser Doppler velocity profile sensor is presented. A spatial resolution of the velocity of about 1.6 μm is achieved inside the measurement volume. Besides high spatial resolution, the profile sensor offers the advantage that no mechanical scanning is needed to obtain the entire flow velocity distribution over about 5 mm. The velocity profile sensor thus provides a tool for high-resolution measurements of varying velocities of shear flows, e. g. boundary layer flows close to walls.
