This article deals with different approaches of multi-sensor data fusion by considering two automotive applications, namely PreCrash and Pedestrian Recognition. Apart from providing a basic introduction to fusion theory, this article also discusses the challenging demands and requirements for the automotive applications. The presented PreCrash application fuses the information from laser scanner and radar sensors, using two different approaches. The pedestrian detection system consists of an array of thermopile infrared sensors, which are fused to determine the pedestrian position.
