This paper presents a modified procedure for the application of the envelope analysis for fault detection and diagnosis in rolling bearings. It is shown that the sampling frequency for the sampling of narrow band signals can be considerably lower than sampling theorem demands as long as some conditions are met. Based on this technique a new signal processing procedure for the envelope detection is proposed and illustrated with numerical and practical examples.
