As an interdisciplinary and method oriented subject control engineering is well established within today´s engineering education. However these positive qualities result in a strongly mathematical based education followed mostly by even more theoretical extension lectures. This leads to a lag of teaching engineering capabilities enabling the transfer of methods to real world processes. On the other hand more and more computer aided tools arise to support especially this process. This paper deals with new demands and options in education due to the increasing influence of compter aided development processes and how to cope with these demands on education in control and automation in an universitary environment.
