An article “Least-square Straight Lines in the Plane” was published in this journal [1], where the problem of the linear fit in R2 was mentioned and the method of the total least-square fit was compared with other methods of linear fit. This fit has to be such as to minimize the sum of the squared distances taken perpendicular to the fitted straight line. In addition the present article provides some general remarks on this topic.
