pH-Measurement with Condition-Based Maintenance-Request

This publication discusses possibilities to reduce inspection and maintenance costs of inline pH-measurements. An overview of the state of the art is given. A new method to measure pH values with a double membrane glass sensor is presented which offers measurement and compensation of sensor slope without dismounting the sensor and placing it into buffers. So online monitoring of the slope and the pH value computed in different ways make it possible to monitor the wear reserve and the functioning of the measurement. Therefore maintenance and repair work can be done only when needed and inspection and maintenance costs can be reduced.
Special attention is given to the creation of signals for maintenance request and failure. First field tests have shown that the reference electrode has to be supervised too. It has been demonstrated also that the use of such systems offers high potential of savings in maintenance.
