Parameter separation in sensors and measuring systems and sensors plays an important role in the measurement of physical quantities, especially in cases where the effect of the measurand on the output signal is much smaller than that of other quantities. An improved compensation method is proposed using signal processing based on a new defined intermediate complex quantity. The separation of an one-dimensional quantity is carried out with 2m+1 compensation points, while the separation of a multidimensional quantity is realized with 2n compensation points. The method is used to reduce the temperature influence on stress measurement of prestressed steels. In an other application the material dependence and the influence of the sensor position are compensated in distance measurements with eddy current sensors.
