Optical Measurement of Wire Speed in Welding Processes Using Wavelets

Common systems for measuring the wire speed of welding systems show error rates up to 30%. A measuring device based on optical 2D-sensors with real-time-analysis was developed. The high amount of data is processed using wavelets. The measuring error for steel and copper could be reduced to less than 10%.
