This paper deals with observer-based fault detection problems of linear continuous time-varying systems. With the aid of the introduced operators and their norms, designing observer-based fault detection systems is first formulated as an optimization problem. It is followed by the solution of the optimization problem, which mainly consists of solving a Riccati differential equation. The proposed approach is finally illustrated by an example.
