In this paper an alternative approach to the application of special numerical algorithms for the simulation of sliding modes is discussed. It will be shown how the simulation of sliding mode oscillations can be avoided by an appropriate hybrid model representation. An anti reset windup controller and a chemical engineering process exemplify that the simulation problem can be solved by the introduction of an additional hybrid state which represents the dynamics during the sliding mode.
