Mobile Agents for Remote Access to Embedded Systems

Keywords: mobile agent, teleautomation, remote access, Java in embedded systems, agent platform

In automation technology teleautomation already plays a significant role in the remote access to single devices or plants. Currently systems of teleservice use analog and digital switched lines or internet connections. As a new paradigm, mobile software agents can significantly improve the techniques of remote access in automation in the very near future. Most automation devices and systems belong to the group of embedded systems. These systems must be enabled to deal and operate with mobile agents by gaining network access and by integrating an agent operation platform. This article describes the necessary modifications and discusses four potential applications of a remote access agent for automation technology.
