Various gauging methods for liquids in tanks are discussed. The advantages and disadvantages of these methods are described as well as the possibility to detect a second transition between two separated fluids. For a FSCW-radar an evaluating algorithm is described which offers the possibility to detect both discontinuities and determine the displacement. Measurements show that an accuracy of ±0,25 mm can be reached with the proposed system.
