Method for the Experimental Determination of Dynamic Coefficients of Journal Bearings

For the determination of stiffness and damping coefficients of large journal bearings, needed e. g. for the analysis of the rotational dynamics of turbine runners, a low-effort experimental method is presented that provides high accuracy of the resulting coefficients. The specialty is that the test bearing is loaded with dynamic forces of two vibrators concurrently and that the fluid film forces are calculated directly rather than through the amplitude of the dynamic forces.
