Linear Optimisation of Parameters of an Eddy Current Sensor Used for a Displacement Measurement

The contribution deals with the model-based measurement of distances by an eddy current sensor. The non-linearity of the skin-effect and the dependency on material properties of the electromagnetic field diffusion restrict a signal processing running on less complex micro-processors. The absence of a qualified model motivates to develop a method of linear parameter optimisation of an eddy current sensor. By means of an approach of linearity between the complex impedance and the influencing variables the optimised parameters can be calculated. The linear combinations of measurements taken during the calibration process deliver the necessary evaluation equations. The displacement measurement for example shows that the influence of the electrical conductivity and the magnetic permeability is distinctly reduced. Therefore a precise displacement measurement can be predicted without any exact knowlegde of the influencing variables.
