Investigations on Metallic Alloys with 3D-Speckle Interferometry Techniques

Speckle interferometry, 3D-ESPI, offers the possibility of full field and non-contact measurement of displacements and strains. The development of a miniaturized and flexible laser optical strain sensor based on this principle offers a new range of applications. The analysis of aluminium, titanium and other lightweight working materials or components can be carried out as a full field measurement and local strain gradients can be detected. Since the increasing demand for better characterization of materials requires the knowledge about the mechanical behaviour up to plastification. Some more details can be detected by 3D-ESPI in comparison with classical techniques: local shear-bands, bending strains, strain gradients with high resolution, Poisson´s ratio with respect to the longitudinal strain. Recent developments now offer simplified applications of 3D-ESPI in tensile and component testing.
