Input Observability and Input Reconstruction of LTI Systems in Polynomial Representation

Keywords: Polynomial MIMO-LTI-systems, input observability, reconstruction of unknown input signals

This contribution deals with the problems of input observability and signal reconstruction for linear time-invariant MIMO systems represented in frequency domain by a set of polynomial equations. Necessary and sufficient solvability conditions are provided. The author presents a simple procedure for the reconstruction of inputs and other signals, which is based on elementary row operations of the given set of polynomial equations. This procedure transforms the given set of equations into its Hermite´s normal form and delivers explicit expressions for the unknown input signals in terms of the measured output signals and their time derivatives. A few nontrivial examples are treated to completely illustrate the individual steps of the procedure.
