Innovisia- an active suspension for a coach

The `Innovisia ´was one of the big attractions of the international motor shwo (IAA) for utility vehicles in Hannover 1996. In this Mercedes-Benz-coach of the type O404 SHD innovations and visions of the Daimler-Benz-Research for a comfortable and safe journey are installed. The most interesting innovation shown in this bus is undoubtdedly the active suspension system called ABC (Active Body Control). The coach which was already presented in June 1996 on the Hockenheimring to the international press could be experienced by visitors at the Mercedes-Benz booth at the IAA. The active suspension system for this coach was developed and set up in close cooperation with the Mechatronik Laboratory Paderborn as well as with the Feinmechanischen Werke Mainz. This essay will describe the history of the active suspension at Daimler-Benz, the system realization with the controller concept and the results of the driving tests.
