Importance of Signal Processing in Sensor Systems

Innovations in future sensor systems are characterized by progress achieved simultaneously in the fields of manufacturing and information technologies. Coordinated actions between both fields lead to synergetic effects and thereby to outstanding solutions. The aim of this paper is to give an overview about the role of information technology in sensor technologies. Special care is dedicated to digital signal processing methods to improve sensor properties and to compensate undesirable effects. The paper is concluded with some expected future trends.
