We investigate magnetic field sensors for applications in the frequency range between 0.1 Hz and 100 kHz where low noise and high sensitivity are required. These sensors include superconducting quantum interference devices, fluxgate sensors, and magnetoresistive sensors. While fluxgate and magnetoresistive sensors operate at room temperature, SQUIDs require low temperature operation with cooling to liquid nitrogen or liquid helium temperature. SQUID sensors provide the lowest noise, but fluxgate and magnetoresistive sensors today already offer an interesting room temperature alternative for many low noise applications.
