From H Control to Multiobjective Control: An Overview

Keywords: multiobjective control, semidefinite programming

The well-known H control paradigm is suited to handle quantitative control performance requirements and robustness considerations. This has led to a widespread use of this method for practical applications in academia and industry. In this paper, an overview on multiobjective control for linear systems is presented, including performance and robustness criteria based on H-, H2-, and l1-norms as well as direct time-domain constraints on the system responses. Different qualitative and quantitative control objectives treatable within this context are discussed with respect to their practical relevance. Two application examples exemplify the realization of control system requirements in such a multiobjective framework and the properties of computational relaxations.
