Global Chassis Control (GCC) stands for functional and architectural networking of the vehicle´s individual chassis systems. The networking is of vital importance for enhanced driving safety, driving comfort, and driving pleasure. Based on the general advantages of Global Chassis Control, this paper describes the chassis subsystems brakes, steering, suspension and tires. Their structure, function, interfaces to other subsystems and their significance for the networked system are discussed. The intermediate steps towards the development of a dry drive-by-wire chassis are explained. We reveal the functional potential due to networking the systems by looking at first spin-offs of Global Chassis Control.
