General Pole Assignment for Discrete-time PMD Processes

Keywords: pole assignment, polynomial methods, discrete-time systems, backward models, polynomial matrix descriptions

The paper provides the complete solution of the pole assignment problem for general discrete-time inhomogeneous PMD (Polynomial Matrix Description) processes in backward form. Beside conditions for the solvability, the paper gives the set of all controllers which guarantee a prescribed position of the closed-loop poles. Moreover, the causal pole assignment problem for inhomogeneous PMD is formulated, and its complete solution is provided under practically relevant conditions. As an application, the set of all causal stabilizing controllers for an arbitrary strictly causal inhomogeneous PMD process is constructed. An example demonstrates the procedure.
