On the Electromagnetic Aquametry of Ionically Conducting Materials

Dielectric measurements of the water content of samples may significantly suffer from electrical conductivity. In this contribution possibilities to reduce undesired effects from the conductivity are discussed, in particular the use of the logarithmic derivative of the dielectric spectrum is considered. Also the necessity of calibrations with a reference of conductivity similar to the sample conductivity is set forth. The parameters of the dielectric spectra of suitable electrically conducting reference liquids are given.
