Zero Dynamics of Linear and Nonlinear Systems: Definitions, Properties and Applications

Keywords: zero dynamics, nonlinear systems, internal dynamics, relative degree, minimum-phase system

The nonlinear analog of the notion of the zeros of a linear transfer function, which is called zero dynamics and developed by Isidori 20 years ago, is of basic importance for the analysis and synthesis of linear and nonlinear control systems. This paper gives both an introduction into the zero dynamics concept for linear and nonlinear SISO-systems and an overview about relevance and control applications.
