Dynamic Properties of Force Sensors at Impact Tests

Keywords: piezoelectric sensor, dynamic force, crash barrier, shocking force

Piezoelectric force sensors are used for the measurement of highly dynamic forces as it is realized on instrumented crash barriers designed for crash tests of vehicles or on force measuring platforms in drop-towers for the investigation of energy absorbing shock-absorber. High sensitivity and high natural frequencies are ideal properties for the measurement of dynamic and shocking forces. The static and even more the dynamic characteristics are important due to the restrictive influence on the permitted measuring range. The frequency-dependent transfer coefficient, the natural and resonance frequency, the damping and the response behaviour belong to the most important characteristics.
