The implementation of self diagnosis for sensor systems is a recent development which is aimed to increase reliability and accuracy of measuring systems. In this article a concept of a liquid flow meter is proposed which combines a differential pressure meter of the venturi type with a vortex meter. The performance of a prototype is characterized experimentally. A possible structure of a problem specific signal analysis is outlined. It perceives and evaluates changes in the measuring system, both short and long term.
