The Guide to the Expression of Uncertainty in Measurement (GUM) is considered by ISO, DIN and other institutions as the master document for the evaluation of uncertainty. It has been published about 10 years ago. Presumably already in 2004, supplements to the GUM will be published that present new developments. One of these will address measurement problems with more than one output quantity. Another one will recommend the use of Monte Carlo techniques for the evaluation of measurement uncertainty, especially for non-linear models for evaluation. This paper provides an introduction to these techniques.
