Development and Calibration of Model-based Controller Functions by the Example of a Six Cylinder Engine with Full-variable Valvetrain

This paper describes the development and calibration of model based functions within the electronic control unit of the new BMW 6-cylinder inline engine. It is shown that BMW uses new ways in the overall function and calibration process for developing future functions for control units in an highly customised and efficient manner.
