On-board emission measurement in vehicles will be of increasing importance in the future. For example this technology can be used on heavy commercial vehicles for an ecologically oriented charging of toll fares. In on-board emission measurement, determination of pollutants as NO, CO, HC (referred to C3H8) and the greenhouse gas CO2 is required. However, some of these parameters are difficult or impossible to measure directly and have to be determined by mathematical modelling. In this paper we report the determination of these parameters using artificial neural networks based on the motor and driving parameters. The method can be developed further for compliance with the emission standards.
