Determination of Moisture and Density Distributions using TDR-Sensors

The measurement of moisture distribution in bentonite gate structures is stringently necessary for the indefinable trend of fluid access and for long-term security analyses. A TDR moisture measurement system using flexible cable sensors has been applied. Finite element electromagnetic field simulation of both the sensor and the surrounding material was used to simplify calibrations. Using TDR, it was possible to detect the moisture and density distribution along the cable sensors. In a pressure test stand it was possible to determine the moisture profile during a pressure increase.
