The biohybrid devices and chip-based systems presented enable the analysis of metabolic and electric signals from cells and tissues on-line and in real-time. Since these systems provide a close-to-reality microenvironment, they are ideal systems for a substitution of animal experiments. A fully automated process control by micro-sensors ensures reproducible test procedures.
