The pain perception (analgesia) of an anaesthetized patient is not easily quantified and may change over time. As an indicator the blood pressure is clinically used. Generally it is only measured every five minutes (non-invasively) during surgery. In this work novel approaches to control analgesia are presented, which use the heart rate to complement the non invasive blood pressure measurement. Thereby a faster reaction to the disturbances caused by surgery is possible. Finally, results from clinical tests are presented.
