Automatic Measurement of the Contact Force of Piezoelectric Benders

The measuring method presented allows to quantify the contact force between a piezoelectric bender which is activated by a dc voltage and a rigid stopper which limits the travel. A force applied to the bender is continuously increased until the structures are no longer in contact. The force-time characteristic of this operation shows typical features which can be analysed to determine the original contact force. The signal analysis is based upon a nonlinear signal model whose parameters are identified by an inner quadratic and an outer nonlinear optimisation process.
