Application of Knock Sensors for Engine Misfire Detection

Engine misfire detection is a great challenge within the scope of automotive diagnostics. This article describes an alternative procedure of misfire detection using knock sensors. A new signal processing method is introduced which allows the extraction of combustion information from the knock sensor signal and as a consequence the identification of misfires.
