Within this contribution, some experiments carried out at an experimental solar power plant at the Plataforma Solar de Almeria (Spain) during 1997 and 1998 are described. Mainly, two different strategies using adaptive control concepts have been tested:
- to describe the nonlinear behaviour of the plant, different dynamical models for the respective operating-point are implemented and used in connection with a standard adaptive control algorithm as LQG or GPC (multi-model procedure)
- from the physical relations for the solar heating process a nonlinear model of the plant with its parameters estimated on-line is developed. This input-output model is used for the design of an adaptive predictive controller which is based on an evident search strategy minimizing a cost function for a given prediction horizon.
