Analysis and Design of Rate-responsive Pacemakers

Patients suffering from chronotropic incompetence are treated with a rate-responsive pacemaker that stimulates the heart at a rate derived from a strain related sensor signal. A certain class of sensors establishes a closed feedback loop. Therefore, the design must be based on closed-loop control methods. This paper presents a general framework for such a design.
