Advanced Sensor Models for Tracking Applications

Keywords: sensor model, negative evidence, search, jamming, Tracking

In challenging surveillance applications all available information on the sensor systems involved, the objects to be observed or tracked, and the underlying scenario must be taken into account explicitly. Besides the processing of measured sensor data this includes the use of more refined sensor models, by which context information on the characteristic sensor performance can be formulated. By this way it is in particular possible to exploit negative sensor evidence, i. e. to draw conclusions from expected but actually missing sensor detections. As a direct consequence of more refined sensor models, estimates of the position and velocity of the objects to be tracked can much be improved.
