The User in the UI Design Process for Consumer Products

Many user interface designers are barely aware of the requirements and characteristics of the users of consumer products. Their efforts result in products with unused functions, because they are irrelevant to the end users or too complex to be understood.
It is, however, possible to integrate the prospective end users in the user interface design process of these products. Focus group analysis for the collection of user requirements and usability tests with potential customers in which user interface concepts, design alternatives, and the resulting products are evaluated for their acceptability throughout the design process are among the promising approaches for end user involvement.
