TeleTruck: An Online Dispatching System for Haulage Companies

This article describes TELETRUCK, an online dispatching system for haulage companies. Starting from a characterization of the problems in freight transport in Europe the architecture of the TELETRUCK system is described. The architecture of TELETRUCK bases on a multi-agent system approach, in which logical and physical entities, for example haulage companies or vehicles, are designed as autonomously planning and acting agents. The article explains on the one hand the problem solving concepts used in TELETRUCK. On the other hand, it demonstrates how telematics technologies can be used to implement a powerful online dispatching system.
