System Specification and System Design using Knowledge-Based Methods

In this contribution we present a hierarchical, object-oriented model for specifying and designing complex systems at several design levels. This model forms the foundation of a uniform, formal representation of design knowledge that is used to generate prototypes that can be simulated, to synthesize architectures of new systems and to reuse knowledge at every design level.
