Supporting Co-operative Plant Design: The Planners´ Table

Simulation is promising for plant configuration and design if it contributes to visualize and document shared visions, proposals and agreements understandable with little effort for all participants. The paper describes how a simulation tool was tailored and integrated it into a roomware-element: the planners´ table. The design was based on an empirical field study in a German plant engineering office which is specialized in the design of plant for the beverage industry. It is shown how the new interaction technologies of this co-operative planners´ table can be used to support the design and configuration of plants.
