Wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) is a key technology to manage the permanently increasing internet traffic. For the simulation of large WDM systems, numerical algorithms with an optimum complexity are indispensible. The wavelet collocation methods developed in this PhD thesis fulfill these requirements and allow for the first time simulations with substantially reduced simulation times compared to the standard method. A systematic optimization of WDM system parameters, e.g., the optical channel power, is drastically simplified.
