For the design of analog and mixed-signal systems, only few development-tools are used. The design is still rather "bottom-up" and remains intuitive. The structuring of the design-flow in different levels of abstraction, and the formal representation of these levels of abstraction are necessary for a more systematic "top-down" design flow. A systematic "top-down" design flow starting with a behavioral representation is required for the development and application of new design-tools. This paper gives an overview of the modeling and design methodology which is the foundation of the design-tool KANDIS.
